Macaranga gigantea (Reichb.f. & Zoll.) Műll.Arg. Tree up to ca. 30 m tall and 40 cm dbh, reproductive from 4 m tall and 7 cm dbh. Twigs solid, densely hairy (short to long simple hairs). Stipules ovate, persistent, erect, drying on the twig, not or almost surrounding the twigs completely, 25-60 mm long by 18-40 mm wide. Petioles hairy, up to ca. 57 cm long. Leaves alternate, usually peltate, 3-lobed, 30-60 cm long by 27-58 cm wide, length/width-ratio 0.88-1.31; secondary veins 7-9, ending in the margin; central lobe 11-22 cm long by 14-24 cm wide, lateral lobes 5-12 cm long; leaf base rounded to deeply cordate, peltate margin length (when present) 4-7 cm; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface hairy on veins; leaf lower surface densely hairy, densely gland dotted. Staminate inflorescences branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with fimbriate margin. Pistillate inflorescences branched; fruits 6-8 mm wide, 2-locular, completely covered by glands. Ecology: Collected up to ca. 1000 m altitude. An early successional tree species in primary and secondary forests. Distribution: Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi. In Borneo collected throughout the island.
